Our Text to Text series pairs often-taught literary, historical, scientific and cultural pieces with articles from The New York Times. Through a continuing series of 360 videos, The Times is covering the research mission. There, strict restrictions cut them off from the rest of Earth’s comforts and connections. The eight-month project, named HI-SEAs (for Hawaii Space Exploration Analog and Simulation), places these scientists in isolation on Mauna Loa volcano in Hawaii, a location chosen for its Mars-like conditions.
